Today was All About Baby Day! I had a full schedule of baby-related appointments. And I feel very proud of myself for what I've accomplished today.
My first stop was to Labor of Love for my monthly checkup, glucose test and pap-smear. Fortunately for me, Labor of Love has decided to try a different method of glucose screening, so instead of drinking a sticky sweet sludge drink (like all of you had to do - neener!), all I had to do was fast, draw blood, eat a hearty breakfast and then draw blood again an hour later. So yay! That worked out nicely!
The rest of the appointment was pretty standard, except that Bea did congratulate me on my minimal weight gain this month (+3 lbs). I felt pretty successful and credit it all to the pre-glucose screening South Beachish diet I did last week. So I'd like to continue that diet for the most part - but allow myself to enjoy the occasional sweet or white-flour snack.
And now I'm starting to go to the birth center every two weeks - we're getting closer, people! (For those of you wondering, I am 27 weeks, 5 days).
Next stop was two appointments at potential pediatricians. The first pediatrician was already a favorite of mine, due to the friendly and accommodating staff. i met the doc and we just clicked right away. He was wearing jeans and a polo t-shirt and he had a very relaxed manner. Our viewpoints were right on target: we both agree that vaccinations are a good thing; H1N1 vaccinations isn't necessary; viruses/colds happen and don't require antibiotics or other prescriptions but just need to run its course; and that instead of being drug-happy to cover or alleviate the symptoms for a recurring illness, the doctor should investigate the cause of the symptoms. I won't even bother you with the details of the other pediatrician appointment... I've fallen in love with this guy!
Next up - an appointment to tour and meet the daycare Melanie will most likely attend. It's run by an older couple from their home or a home-like setup. I hope they speak Spanish, because learning Spanish is becoming an unfortunate necessity in Tampa. I'll let you know how that turns out.
I've also registered at Babies R' Us last weekend and I'm about to register at Target. And hopefully hopefully hopefully the baby's room will be completed this weekend. It sounds like I'm all set, don't it?

I can't believe how organized you are -- interviewing pediatricians!!!! WOW!! I hardly knew I needed one when the twins were born, was just sort of assigned one -- and then he ended up exchanging their blood, taking from Becky and giving to Betsy within 12 hours of their birth. Scary time, and I was by myself. Dan had already left to go back home.
