Sinus infection is being evicted!

After two weeks of having this sinus infection, I decided to go for the big guns: antibiotics. Sure I could keep using a combination of sudafed in the day and benedryl & cough syrup at night, but it was obvious that I was covering my wound with a medley of over-the-counter-band-aids, and that I really needed some antibiotic stitches to actually heal.

So at 2:00am this morning, as I was rustling around trying to find a comfy spot for my belly and over-dry nose, I decided to call the doctor. I am now in possession of a 10 day supply of amoxicillin (sp?) and looking forward to the antibiotics kicking in.

I just hope that it's not too late and use of all these drugs have harmed Melanie in any way. All the MDs & midwives say it's safe drugs to take - but for two weeks plus?

Oh well, I'm going to bed now. Wishing everyone out there a great nights sleep!

Love,
Sniffles... I mean Katie

Melanie vs. TV

Melanie wins!

Lately, I'm having more enjoyment watching Melanie moving around than watching TV. :)

MD Appointment Update

I had an MD appointment this afternoon. I'm 29.4 days pregnant and Melanie's heartbeat sounded strong & healthy!
As for weight, well I gained a little bit more than I'd like but I did have a naughty, large lunch. So I'll obviously work on it.
Finally, my glucose test results came back a-ok but they did find something I need to work on. Seems my iron levels are lower than they'd like, so I'm to take an iron supplement at night, not consuming calcium 2 hours in advance and 2 hours afterwards. Which is kinda difficult because the only snack-like thing I found tonight was peanut butter. Which isn't all bad, I guess...
But it does feel good to know that this might have something to do with being sleepy, fatigued and fainty - especially when shopping at Walmart.
That's all for now! Love to you all!

Melanie's Room!

We're done!! Yay!! Special thanks go out to our parents for helping us out - especially to Harry (who came over even with a serious medical condition) and Linda (who anticipated our needs before we even knew we had them). We couldn't have done this without you guys - you're going to make us look so good to Melanie! :)

Eventful Day!

Today was All About Baby Day! I had a full schedule of baby-related appointments. And I feel very proud of myself for what I've accomplished today.

My first stop was to Labor of Love for my monthly checkup, glucose test and pap-smear. Fortunately for me, Labor of Love has decided to try a different method of glucose screening, so instead of drinking a sticky sweet sludge drink (like all of you had to do - neener!), all I had to do was fast, draw blood, eat a hearty breakfast and then draw blood again an hour later. So yay! That worked out nicely!
The rest of the appointment was pretty standard, except that Bea did congratulate me on my minimal weight gain this month (+3 lbs). I felt pretty successful and credit it all to the pre-glucose screening South Beachish diet I did last week. So I'd like to continue that diet for the most part - but allow myself to enjoy the occasional sweet or white-flour snack.
And now I'm starting to go to the birth center every two weeks - we're getting closer, people! (For those of you wondering, I am 27 weeks, 5 days).

Next stop was two appointments at potential pediatricians. The first pediatrician was already a favorite of mine, due to the friendly and accommodating staff. i met the doc and we just clicked right away. He was wearing jeans and a polo t-shirt and he had a very relaxed manner. Our viewpoints were right on target: we both agree that vaccinations are a good thing; H1N1 vaccinations isn't necessary; viruses/colds happen and don't require antibiotics or other prescriptions but just need to run its course; and that instead of being drug-happy to cover or alleviate the symptoms for a recurring illness, the doctor should investigate the cause of the symptoms. I won't even bother you with the details of the other pediatrician appointment... I've fallen in love with this guy!

Next up - an appointment to tour and meet the daycare Melanie will most likely attend. It's run by an older couple from their home or a home-like setup. I hope they speak Spanish, because learning Spanish is becoming an unfortunate necessity in Tampa. I'll let you know how that turns out.

I've also registered at Babies R' Us last weekend and I'm about to register at Target. And hopefully hopefully hopefully the baby's room will be completed this weekend. It sounds like I'm all set, don't it?

Happy New Year!

Ten years ago today I woke up and fell in love with Brian. We spent the day together, without anyone else around. Just the two of us. We were discovering each other and finding things we both liked, and only a few things we didn't. By the end of the day, I knew I wanted to be with him, and he wanted to be with me.

Flashforward 10 years to the present and we're happily married, with 4 fur-babies and one baby girl on the way. The few things we didn't like about each other have either been eliminated or accepted. And I still want to be with him, and he still wants to be with me. I'm the luckiest girl in the world!
